We are a smaller group within the Friends who enjoy hands-on gardening in the beautiful environment of the Gardens and Wombat Hill. Our activities are divided mainly between the propagating area near “The Shed” and working in the Friends’ Bed, which runs roughly between the WW1 artillery piece near the café and the Fernery. This bed is in partial and deep shade and is very much a dry shade area. Our aim is to plant and maintain a variety of lovely specimens which do well in this unpromising area.

We also propagate a huge variety of plants for sale at open gardens and from our trolley outside Wombat Hill House Café. The Shire has also provided us with a glasshouse – so what exotica will be nurtured there in the months ahead?

Currently, we have a regular meeting day – Wednesday at 9.30 – for as long or short a time as seems to be most effective or possible. We are totally flexible!

Annie Pyers who has lead the Growing Friends for many years says:

“I see this time and this group as an opportunity to gather together people of common interest – the Gardens, plants and making a small financial contribution to the support that the Friends offer Wombat Hill.”
